Present day life revolves around the Automobile whose large numbers necessitate
an elaborate infrastructure (roads, parking areas etc.). The importance
of the automobile is further enhanced by the fact that it figures prominently
in conversations, advertisements, in the family budget and family's social
status. Given this enormous importance of the automobile, Autoworld offers
teachers to look at the automobile as :
- the means and the end of discovering and studying contemporary history ;
- the object which enables us to discover, observe and analyse science
and technology ;
- which concerns values and fuels discussions.
Taking up the visit of AUTOWORLD as a group activity will allow children
and adolescents to understand the automobile as a functional and symbolic
object which brings out the heights of performance which can be attained
but also the limitations of the industrial society. Finally, it helps young
people to better understand the world in which they lead their day to day
life.
Autoworld can offer you two types of visits :
- A visit which is more oriented towards the socio-cultural aspect,
for pupils aged between 10 and 14.
- A visit which is more oriented towards game and rally, for pupils
aged between 8 and 12.
These visits have been created with the aim of developping mental activity,
i.e. observation, analysis and comprehension patterns and a critical view
of day to day life. By way of personal or group quests, Autoworld offers
young people the possibility to decode and understand by themselves the
know-how involved (technical, historical, geographical, economic, political,
artistic etc.) which models found at the Autoworld seem to "concretise".
You will be supplied with two types of documentation for these visits.
This documentation includes :
- general outline of the approach,
- some methodological instructions,
- contents and general aims and objectives of the documentation,
- questionnaires for teachers (with answers),
- cognitive aims of these questionnaires,
- and, questionnaires meant for students (without answers) on request
or on reservation,
- ...
