Brussels Love Bugs Parade 2012

Belgian Racing Legends
For example, later on, in ’51, Swaters created the Francorchamps Racing Stable (Ecurie Francorchamps) and Claes created the Belgian Racing Stable (Ecurie Belge).
There were no sponsors for these pioneers. They had to pay for everything themselves – cars, fuel, spare parts, mechanics, travel, registration fees… And there were very few, if any, rules… Also, women were not excluded! Some of them were successful, such as Thirion, Beckers and Fontaine.
They ended up being dubbed “Belgian Gentlemen Drivers”…like their English counterparts. After them, many other Belgian pilotes were known worlwide such as Olivier Gendebien, Jacky Ickx, Willy Mairesse, Jean « Beurlys » Blaton, Lucien Bianchi, Pierre Dieudonné, Thierry Boutsen, Willy Braillard, Marc Duez, Bertrand Gachot, Georges Hacquin, Jean-Michel Martin…
The exhibition : pilotes and cars !
In a completely original style, the exhibition recreates the magical atmosphere of the racetrack, with its paddocks, terraces and unique atmosphere, and of course its finest competition cars (30 in total).
On a mocked up track: some 15 cars placed in chronological on the starting grid. While in the paddocks and around the mezzanine: racing and rally cars. On the terraces, screens will display info about the drivers, their victories and their anecdotes.
Not forgetting the video areas with period film screenings, photo galleries, posters, trophy cupboards, etc.

Renault 4L
The weird Renault 4 from the film ‘Rien à déclarer’ starring Dany Boone and Benoît Poelvoorde will be on show at Autoworld alongside 30 other models of the R4, which is celebrating its 50th birthday this year. In an exhibition covering 1300 m², the “A stroke of genius” exhibition will be devoted to the ancestor of the Kangoo. Among the cars on display, there is also the unique model of the Renault 4 Miss Sixty and the Renault 4 Shopping, a special edition designed for Belgium, of which 350 were made.
This exhibition was held from 9 to 24 April 2011 at Autoworld, Parc du Cinquantenaire 11 in Brussels (nearest metro: Mérode). Renault, the partner in this event with the R4L Club Belgium, the Renault dealer network is offering reduction vouchers.

Brussels Love Bugs Parade
From noon onwards, these lovable cars started arriving on the Esplanade of the Cinquantenaire outside the Autoworld Museum. The atmosphere was exuberant, as the participants were so pleased to be able to parade their bugs through the streets of Brussels.
Many TV crews were there to film the cars; even more reason for the owners to be proud. Some of the cars were really extraordinary! The oldest, the Type 30 of 1937, which will take part in the African Raid of Pierre D’Ieteren, a very rare ‘Zwitter’, two ‘Gemini’ Beetles of 1972, a Silverburg of 1982, a few Ultima Ediciones (the last ones built in Mexico in 2003), the fire/ambulance service Beetle, and many other little miracles in colours that conjured up images of springtime!
At exactly 14.00, the cars set off in a procession towards Place des Palais.
And on arrival, what a surprise! At the last minute, the cars were exceptionally allowed to park in front of the Royal Palace! What a memory! And while the participants visited the archaeological site of Coudenberg, the public were able to feast their eyes on the cars.
Back at Autoworld, the 300 or so participants in the Love Bugs Parade were able to swap impressions over a snack buffet, and fix a new rendezvous for 2012!
