Expo Calendar 2014

Exposition : “Le Circuit des Ardennes”

Exposition : “Le Circuit des Ardennes”

Awaiting the rally Commemoration of « Le Circuit des Ardennes »

Every three years since 2002 a four days rally commemorates the first car race on a closed circuit, an initiative of Baron de Crawhez in 1902. A revolutionary change in motor racing, soon followed by other important events such as the ”Coupe Gordon Bennett”, the Targa Florio and Francorchamps Circuit.

Eight vehicles, each representing a category of cars, will participate in the « Historic Circuit des Ardennes” will be exposed. Old visuals and posters will illustrate and explain this historical race.

The following cars will be exposed :

Renault 1902 -  Cadillac 1904 – Amilcar – DKW 193 – Delage 1936 – Ford Anglia 1958 – Citroën Traction 1955 – Chrysler Town & Country 1948.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of « Le Circuit des Ardennes », a unique and innovating race event in Europe,  a first commemorating rally has been organized in 2002. All automobile races up to 1902 were organized from town to town in several stages.

Baron Pierre de Crawhez, President of the Belgian Automobile Club these days, took this revolutionary initiative. From 1902 to 1907, the “Circuit des Ardennes” became an international milestone in motor racing. An challenge for the drivers to go much faster, un opportunity for the public to watch the cars several times on the same place.

The centre of the Commemoration of the  “Circuit des Ardennes” , settled in Bastogne, welcomes more than 500 cars since 2002, covering the whole period from 1902 until the seventies,  and historic motor cycles. Many drivers come from neighbouring countries such as Luxemburg, Switzerland, Germany, Greta Britain and the Netherlands.

Important to know, the first Brussels Motor Show has been organised in 1902 in Autoworld under the name of “1er Salon de l’Automobile, du Cycle et du Sport.

A new approach for this temporary exhibition at the national car museum Autoworld in Brussels.

Legendary Cars of the Seventies

Legendary Cars of the Seventies

The first oil crisis in 1973 brought an end to the golden 60s. The first emission standards were set and for the first time a lot of attention went to safety , with for example the introduction of the airbag and the development of the crashtest .

However, this did not prevent the Italian designers and engineers to build some exceptional cars. Few sports cars in this period used to have such a great names and so many horsepower. England had the perfect reply for this Italian legendary cars with the Jaguar E – Type .

The Lamborghini Miura P400 SV , the fastest version ever on track and trend setter for the sporty two-seater mid-engined .

The Bizzarrini 5300 GT Strada of which only 140 cars were built , while the Ferrari 330 GTC , according to experts , the most ” round” Ferrari of all time . In this list fits  as well the De Tomaso Pantera , the most successful car of this Italian manufacturer. Whoever swears by British sports cars , can’t ignore the Jaguar E -Type V12 Roadster back. An AC Cobra Roadster Shelby will complete this small but legendary range range.

A piece of nostalgia with six legendary sports cars that we present to you in
March

VW Fun cups

VW Fun cups

Temporary exhibition on the occasion of the return of Volkswagen at the 25 Hours Fun Cup at Spa-Francorchamps

The temporary exhibition of February is traditionally dedicated to the VW Beetle.
Because February is the most romantic month of the year with St. Valentine’s day, and because the Love Bug symbolizes love !
Also because the Love Bugs Parade is taking place on Sunday,
February 16th , a happening where around 250 Beetles gather at noon in front of the museum and leave at 2pm for a tour around Brussels in Walloon Brabant (at 4 or 4:30pm, the participants return to Autoworld for a delicious snack at the museum).

The Beetles are happy to invite on stage the Volkswagen Fun Cups!
Because this year we celebrate the return of Volkswagen at the 25 Hours Fun Cup at Spa-Francorchamps in July. This summer feast will again be THE place to be for a big party, like it used to be a few years ago.

Around 5 impressive Volkswagen Fun Cups, including the new GSR and CAP48, especially designed for a less-mobile pilot, will be shown on the stage in the temporary exhibition area.

For those who didn’t know … a Volkswagen Fun Cup is a real racecar with tubular chassis, rear engine, 160hp and 820 kilo’s with the body of a Beetle. It exists both in single and double-seat which allows to have a passenger during an exciting race.

This exhibition is a unique opportunity to discover and enjoy these exceptional cars which you normally only see on closed circuit.

Ferdinand Porsche, the Heritage

Ferdinand Porsche, the Heritage

At a time when hybrid vehicles seem to be a possible future direction for the automobile, it is as well to remember that 113 years ago in Vienna, a young man 24 years of age was already creating his first electric car, followed shortly afterwards by his first hybrid car.
His name was Ferdinand Porsche. He was a genius and a visionary.

For its third major exhibition over the Christmas and New Year period, Autoworld Brussels retraces the legacy of this man and his descendants, whose name was to become one of the world’s most prestigious automotive brands.

Nearly 45 vehicles, including some which are utterly exceptional, and numerous documents (including contemporary films, photos and posters) will recount this extraordinary family epic which saw the creation of cars renowned the whole world over, from Prof. Ferdinand Porsche’s first Lohner-Porsche hybrid right up to today’s Porsche 918 Spyder (also a hybrid – hence the exhibition’s subtitle ‘from electric to electric’), presented in a Belgian preview at Autoworld this December.

The exhibition’s plain, elegant presentation – in the purest Porsche spirit – will spotlight the ‘four Ferdinands’ who contributed personally to the legend, placing each in relation with his own creations.

The whole experience is rounded off by a champagne bar, ‘Cocktail Ferdinand Porsche’ and an exclusive gift shop to ensure that this exhibition is remembered by every visitor as a truly unique event.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The world’s best-selling luxury sedan

S-Class means “special class” in the sense of a class of its own. The S-Class is not only a pioneer, but also the leading brand in the luxury sedan segment. The tradition goes back to the early days of the 20th century, when Mercedes-Benz launched in 1903 the Simplex 60 HP, setting the standards for engineering and comfort. The classification was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116 S-Class, which succeeded previous Mercedes-Benz models dating to the mid-1950s. The S-Class has served as the flagship model for Mercedes for over fifty years in its various incarnations. The S-Class has debuted many of the company’s latest innovations, including drive train technologies, interior features, and safety systems (such as the first seatbelt pretensioners). Several technical innovations have been adopted later by many other manufacturers. The S-Class has ranked as the world’s best-selling luxury sedan, since Mercedes-Benz started in 1951 again to produce luxury sedans.  More than 3.5 million cars have been sold meanwhile.
After a new record sale of more than 500.000 units, the previous generation W221 has been replaced earlier this year by the new W222.

Suzuki Classics

Suzuki Classics
