At a time when hybrid vehicles seem to be a possible future direction for the automobile, it is as well to remember that 113 years ago in Vienna, a young man 24 years of age was already creating his first electric car, followed shortly afterwards by his first hybrid car.
His name was Ferdinand Porsche. He was a genius and a visionary. For its third major exhibition over the Christmas and New Year period, Autoworld Brussels retraces the legacy of this man and his descendants, whose name was to become one of the world’s most prestigious automotive brands.
Nearly 45 vehicles, including some which are utterly exceptional, and numerous documents (including contemporary films, photos and posters) will recount this extraordinary family epic which saw the creation of cars renowned the whole world over, from Prof. Ferdinand Porsche’s first Lohner-Porsche hybrid right up to today’s Porsche 918 Spyder (also a hybrid – hence the exhibition’s subtitle ‘from electric to electric’), presented in a Belgian preview at Autoworld this December.
The exhibition’s plain, elegant presentation – in the purest Porsche spirit – will spotlight the ‘four Ferdinands’ who contributed personally to the legend, placing each in relation with his own creations.
The whole experience is rounded off by a champagne bar, ‘Cocktail Ferdinand Porsche’ and an exclusive gift shop to ensure that this exhibition is remembered by every visitor as a truly unique event.
