Brussels museums in 2020 & covid-19: €20 million loss and 58% drop in attendance

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a historic decline in museum attendance in Brussels, Belgium and around the world. As the first cultural places to reopen after confinement, museums provide a necessary breath of fresh air for our situations of physical and mental isolation. Behind the scenes, however, the sector is currently at risk of asphyxiation.

Announcement of the death of Mr R. D'Ieteren

On December 10, 2020, Roland D'Ieteren passed away due to Covid-19. He was 78 years old.
The great merits of this man for the economy of our country are widely reported in the media.

However, he was also a driving force behind Autoworld.
He was one of the founders of the museum and was a member of the Board of Directors for more than 30 years.
His passion for the automobile, his legendary reputation in the classic car world and his extensive international network were valuable assets. He set new standards and his enthusiasm and charisma made him a great motivator for the whole team.

His death is an immense loss, not only for the museum, it will linger throughout the classic automotive world for a long time to come.
All our thoughts go out to his loved ones. Covid cruelly took an exceptional lover away from them.
On behalf of the entire Autoworld team, we extend our sincere condolences to them.

Skoda 125 Years: From past to future

Anyone who has visited Prague might well have been treated to a short tour of Kafka’s city on board a classic convertible ŠKODA, well wrapped up (at least in winter) in thick rugs.  It’s a one-off experience!

This winter, it will not be a stroll outside but a journey through time at the Autoworld-Brussels museum to discover the history of the Czech make – one of the oldest automotive makes still active in the world – on the occasion of its 125th anniversary
An exceptional exhibition because, among the historic cars on display, around a dozen emanate from the ŠKODA Auto Museum of Mlada Boleslav, from where they rarely come out.

A car-free Esplanade!

Henceforth, when you visit the Museum, you will enjoy a splendid clear view of the Arche du Cinquantenaire and its park. This is due to the fact that parking is no longer authorised on the Esplanade (*) in order to preserve the historic and patrimonial aspects of the site.
Perhaps some may recall … it was the case back in 1972 for the Brussels Grand-Place and we appreciate how enjoyable it is to stroll around there now.
Let us venture that it will restore all the Cinquantenaire’s lustre and fully benefit the surrounding museums and the visitors.

'Exhibitions' or 'Cars in the spotlight: what's the difference?

The exhibitions held by Autoworld in the course of the year are not all of the same order of magnitude. This is why we have decided to use two different names from now on for large and small exhibitions, so that visitors know exactly what to expect when they plan a visit to Autoworld.
