Marcel Seys, who for more than twelve years had been a passionate, active and
admired Managing-Director by the entire Board of the Autoworld-Brussels museum,
It is an equally passionate man who is taking over the reins. Philippe Simonart has just been appointed by the Board of Directors following their meeting held on 24th June 2020.
Philippe Simonart spent most of his professional career (38 years) with D’Ieteren. With a Degree in Applied Economic Sciences, he held successive responsibilities at D’Ieteren Auto. He was for a long time a member of the Executive Committee of D’Ieteren Auto up until March, when he retired from business.
“I discovered Autoworld from the inside one year ago”, the new Managing-Director explained. ”A Chairman - Mr Herman De Croo – who has lost none of his vivaciousness and energy. Passionate and reputable Directors who do not hesitate to become fully involved in the development of Autoworld. A motivated and dynamic operational team behind its General Manager, Sébastien de Baere. Over the past ten years Sébastien has brought about a novel style. Through near on 175 annual events, both big and small, he perfectly illustrates the slogan of Autoworld, “More than a Museum”. Without forgetting the sixty or so “Friends” who every month voluntarily help Autoworld with passion and good humour.”
And to continue: “We have a role to play in the history of the Automotive industry and offer this to a very wide general public (180,000 visitors annually, Belgian and foreign), all this in a prestigious location within the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels. The location and the scale of this museum make it one of the inescapable places to visit in the capital. Our challenges? Making Autoworld a success by attracting the general public through innovative activities and modern means. Consolidating the climate of trust with the authorities and with all of our partners. Confirming Autoworld in its status as a convivial cultural place accessible to enthusiasts and the general public. It is therefore with great passion and longing that I take over this great responsibility following Marcel Seys, for whom I had a deep affection.”
“An immediate current flowed between Philippe Simonart and myself, right from our first contact more than a year ago,” Sébastien de Baere, the General Manager of Autoworld confirmed. “Not only from a professional point of view but also from a human viewpoint. Philippe Simonart is similar to us and I can count on him. For a small organisation such as ours this is essential so that decisions can be taken swiftly to ensure the sustainability of our museum.”
The entire Autoworld team is already enthusiastic with the idea of collaborating with this car enthusiast!
