A watertight roof for Autoworld

Buckets no longer needed to collect the rainwater in the museum!  The Public Buildings Agency started the renovation work to the roof of the Autoworld museum on 1st February 2021. This is the third and penultimate phase of the renovation of the museums on the Cinquantenaire site.
The works at Autoworld will take approximately one year.
This is wonderful news for Autoworld. We will head towards spring 2022 with a brand spanking new museum.
However, since one cannot make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, you may encounter a few minor inconveniences during your visit. We apologise for this and thank you for your understanding.
What works are foreseen?

The vertical glasswork will be renewed without compromising its original aspect, the zinc roofs will be insulated and renewed, and the skylights will be refurbished with thermal insulated glazing. The museum’s roof covers a total surface area of 9,095m².  It is mainly comprised out of glass and is in the form of a particularly steep inclined plane. Given the scale of the works the safety measures are extremely strict. Hence the reason why a large construction site has been set up on the Esplanade, in front of the museum.

As from the month of April a tower crane will also be installed and will remain in situ until after the summer holidays.
Entry to the Esplanade (from the rue des Nerviens) remains closed to cars for one year.

Throughout the works we will take care to minimise the eventual inconvenience these may cause and to ensure that your visit remains as enjoyable as ever.

Thanking you for your understanding.
