To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Autoworld took three remarkable cars from its own collection out of the museum and onto the streets of Brussels. Together with Taxis Verts, a Ferrari Testarossa, a 1966 Ford Mustang and a royal Cadillac were transformed into some very unexpected taxis.
Brussels residents and visitors who simply ordered a taxi through the app suddenly found a piece of automotive history pulling up to collect them. And behind the wheel? Members of the Autoworld team, ready to share the story of each car with their passengers along the way.
Three cars, three stories
For this special anniversary action, Autoworld selected three very different cars from its collection, each with a story and character of its own.
The royal Cadillac carries a unique piece of Belgian history. It was used for the wedding of King Albert and Queen Paola in 1959 and again for the wedding of King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola in 1960. For this special occasion, we took the Cadillac past the Royal Palace once again a place closely connected to its remarkable history.
The Ferrari Testarossa is an unmistakable icon of the 1980s and 90s. With its dramatic lines and signature side air intakes, it became one of the most recognisable Ferraris ever built. Its starring role in Miami Vice also helped turn the Testarossa into a true pop-culture icon.
The 1966 Ford Mustang represents a very different side of automotive history. Since the 1960s, the Mustang has come to embody American freedom and performance, becoming one of the most recognisable cars in automotive history.
Three very different cars, but with one thing in common: today, they belong in a museum. This time, they were able to do what they were originally built to do: hit the road.
A taxi ride through automotive history
The result? Surprised faces, enthusiastic reactions and some truly unforgettable rides through Brussels. Against the backdrop of everyday traffic, our colourful classics certainly knew how to stand out.
Complete with their distinctive Sputnik taxi signs, the three cars made their way through the city, picked up passengers and turned Brussels into the backdrop for a moving piece of automotive history.
That was exactly the idea behind this anniversary action: to introduce people to our collection in an unexpected way and bring automotive history to life – this time, beyond the walls of the museum.

On Sunday 4 October, we’re celebrating 40 years of Autoworld with the public at our 40 Years Birthday Event.
Expect a festive Cars & Coffee, free guided tours, kids’ activities, our Autoworld 40 Years – Looking Back to the Futureexhibition and plenty more surprises.
The three stars of our taxi action will be back too. Between 2 pm and 5 pm, the Ferrari Testarossa, Ford Mustang and royal Cadillac will once again hit the road.
During your visit, you’ll have the chance to ride as a passenger in one of these three remarkable cars from our collection.
