In March, two very special racing cars will be in the spotlight at Autoworld. Both cars will defend the museum's name on the finest racetracks. Both cars will be on display in March in the 'Sports & Competition' area and will leave the museum in early April to compete in several prestigious races with classic racer Paul Grant at the wheel.
The first car is the 1953 Cooper Bristol T23 Mk2 Formula 2. Although this type of car was intended for F2, Cooper Bristols also raced 9 F1 races in 1953. The two-litre, six-cylinder in-line Bristol block had its origins as a BMW engine before WWII. This car already earned its spurs in prestigious classic races such as Goodwood and Monaco.
De tweede wagen is een De Tomaso 505/38 van 1970. Deze wagen werd ontworpen door Dallara en gerund door teameigenaar Frank Williams. Deze spectaculaire F1-wagen is uitgerust met het mythische 3 liter Ford Cosworth DFV-motorblok. Dit is het meest succesvolle motorblok uit de F1-geschiedenis en won 155 F1-races tussen 1967 en 1983. De wagen is bijna volledig gebouwd uit lichtgewicht magnesium. Dit zou tragische gevolgen hebben toen rijder Piers Courage tijdens de Nederlandse GP crashte. Z'n De Tomaso vatte vuur, waarbij het magnesium de wagen onblusbaar maakte. Courage overleefde de brand helaas niet.
